Mmmm, Tastes Organic — Cooking Demo
Adríenne Posner
| Just Food

Today’s Special

Steamed kabocha squash with balsamic and fresh grated parmesan with a side of quinoa and fried onions.

About Adríenne

I love food in all its capacities, whether it is fodder for discussion, consumption and/or livelihood. My formal education has included the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and NYU. As Community Chef Educator for Just Food I give cooking demos in the five-boroughs of NYC using local produce to make delicious and nutritious easy-to-replicate recipes (I’ve successfully gotten many children to eat their greens!). The other hat worn with justfood.org is that of Blog Manager, for which I write about current sustainable food issues as a means of promoting communication and awareness within the sustainable agriculture community.

About Just Food

Just Food is a non-profit organization that works to develop a just and sustainable food system in the New York City region. We do this by fostering new marketing and food-growing opportunities that address the needs of regional, rural family farms, NYC community gardeners, and NYC communities.

State of the Streets — NYC on 2 Wheels
Wiley Norvell
| Transportation Alternatives

Transportation Alternatives is your advocate for bicycling, walking and public transit. T.A. and it’s Brooklyn Committee are working hard to make Williamsburg one of the most dynamic cycling environments in the country. We’ll discuss the good and the bad of biking in North Brooklyn, from crossing the Williamsburg Bridge during rush hour, to navigating the waterfront, to finding a place to park on the street and indoors. And we’ll talk about citywide initiatives like congestion pricing that mean better biking, walking and transit service for Williamsburg and Greenpoint

Abracadabra! Repurposing Goods
Jasmin Malik Chua
| TreeHugger.com + PlanetGreen.com

Today’s Project: Repurposing Wine Bottles

Drinking (organic) wine is sure a joy, but the fun doesn’t have to stop there. Leftover wine bottles make great drinking glasses, but that’s only the beginning of what those utilitarian tools can do for you.

About Jasmin

A 12-year veteran of the magazine publishing industry, Jasmin Malik Chua now channels her passion for sustainability and green living online at TreeHugger and Planet Green. Armed with a bachelor of science in animal biology from the National University of Singapore, a master of science in biomedical journalism from New York University, and a couple of semesters sketching naked people at the School of Visual Arts, Jasmin works to make environmental issues comprehensible to a broader audience, covering a gamut of topics ranging from the politics of climate change and wildlife conservation to health and eco-fashion.
